Shoden I & II (first degree)
beginners & advanced Reiki

Shoden 2.png

This is where it all begins. Shoden is the starting point of Traditional Japanese Reiki practice. Simple, steady, and often more powerful than people expect. I offer it in two parts, so you can move at a pace that actually feels right for you.

While we welcome students from any level or lineage of practice, the lack of standards and uniformity in the various Reiki teachings can create a disparity in the information presented to the student. The Traditional Japanese Reiki system requires that all students interested in this more traditional Reiki practice start at First Degree (Shoden). This applies even if you’re a Reiki 'Master' in another style. This enables the student to gain a full understanding of the approach to this spiritual healing art and practice.

All classes held at:

Shoden 1 beginners first degree Reiki class  (2-day class)

If you’re new to Reiki, or even just curious, this is the place to start. This class is for people who want to learn how to practice Reiki self-treatment and to share Reiki with family, friends, pets, plants, and so much more! You will begin practicing Reiki on yourself and others during the very first session! It’s also a nice fit if you’ve learned Reiki before in a different style, but would like to explore the more Traditional Japanese method, or if you just want a refresher.

You won’t be sitting around listening the whole time. You’ll be practicing right away. It’s very hands-on, very real, and there’s no pressure to ‘get it right.’ We just focus on building something that feels natural and grounded.

Shoden means 'first' or 'beginning' teaching. Taught in the Traditional Japanese manner, the focus in Shoden Degree is on self-healing, health and happiness, and learning how to practice 'non-attachment.' Students gain a basic knowledge of Reiki Ryoho and its history and learn the fundamentals of the hands-on healing practice. Emphasis is placed on learning non-attachment through hands-on practice, and self-healing, self-improvement methods. Class is taught over two days and four Reiju are given. You’ll be given a physical manual, and downloadable video links will be emailed post class to help reinforce the teachings.

After class and completion of the post class requirements, you’ll receive your certificate and be celebrated (usually with CAKE!) at a future Reiki Circle as a way to acknowledge the work you’ve put in. You can stop after Shoden 1 and have a complete, meaningful practice. Or you can keep going and see where it leads. Either way, this is really an invitation to slow down, pay attention, and reconnect with something that’s already there. If you’ve been thinking about it for a while… this might be the nudge you were waiting for.

Prerequisite: You’ll need to have attended at least one Reiki Circle, or have prior experience working with me. Previous TJR Shoden graduates may resit this class for a reduced fee. Contact me for details.

NEW! Shoden II advanced first degree Reiki class (2-day class)

If something in you says “there’s more here,” this is where things start to open up.

Shoden II is for those who want to keep going. Whether that means becoming a Reiki professional or simply exploring Reiki on a deeper, more personal level. We spend more time refining your hands-on work, learning how to better sense Byosen, and really understanding what’s happening beneath the surface of the practice and the reasons behind the methods taught. We’ll also go over some practical tips on how to start a Reiki practice as a business. There’s a lot of hands-on practice in this class. You’ll be working, feeling, noticing, discussing, and slowly building confidence in what you’re sensing.

Before the class, you’ll take a simple 15-20 minute assessment over Zoom to see where you’re at with the Shoden 1 methods and understanding. After class, there’s some required post class integration work to help everything settle in. As with Shoden 1, certificates are awarded and celebrated with some kind of yummy goodie at a future Reiki Circle once post-class requirements have been met. Which makes it feel less like a finish line and more like a step into something ongoing.

Prerequisites: For newcomers, completion of Shoden 1, regular attendance at Reiki Circles, and at least three Kenkyukai (Reiki study groups). Previous TJR Shoden graduates are HIGHLY encouraged to attend this brand-new class as we’ll be going over lots of new and exciting information! Please be sure to bring your Shoden I manual with you.
