What to expect during a Reiki session
What happens during a Reiki Treatment?
A typical Reiki treatment lasts approximately 60 minutes, but length of treatment may vary according to the needs and wants of the recipient. Recipients lay fully clothed on a massage table (covered in a blanket if they choose, usually listening to soothing music,) however, seated sessions are also common. Because it is so adaptable, Reiki treatment can also be given to people in wheelchairs as well as those in a hospital setting or under palliative care. Most Reiki practitioners will ask their client to remove their shoes, and commonly belts and jewelry as well, for the comfort of both practitioner and recipient. A Reiki practitioner will place their hands lightly on or just above the person receiving treatment in a series of hand positions, including the head, arms, hands, body, legs, and feet. Each position will typically be held for a few minutes, but sometimes a practitioner may linger a little in those areas that need extra Reiki attention before moving on to the next position. Please know that safe touch should be practiced at all times, and a seasoned practitioner will usually be able to sense what is or is not appropriate touch for you, however be sure to tell your practitioner if you are uncomfortable at any time.
What does Reiki feel like?
Everyone experiences Reiki in their own unique way, however most people report feeling profoundly relaxed after a session. Reiki generally feels like a gentle warmth, but some people also report that Reiki feels like a pulsing, tingly, or even wave-like sensation. Some people see colors or experience a sudden remembrance of traumas long passed, while others feel nothing at all. Be assured that Reiki helps us to regain our health and restore us to a balanced state on all levels, physical, mental, and/or emotional, whether we feel it working or not. It is also common for people to actually fall asleep during a treatment. After the Reiki session, some people might feel a little dizzy or 'spacey.' This is normal and will pass, just be sure to take your time getting up or off the table if you feel the need.
How many sessions do I need?
Just like eating right and daily exercise, the effects of repeated, regular Reiki session are cumulative. While one session can work wonders, repeated, regular Reiki treatments can change your life in the most profound way. Whether in restoring our physical health, calming our minds and emotions, or just bringing us back into a balanced state, regular sessions are a helpful way to support our well being in every aspect. The more regular Reiki sessions we receive, the better we feel, so we recommend making biweekly Reiki treatments part of your regular self care routine, however you may need more or less treatments depending upon your situation. Remember to be kind to yourself! YOU MATTER MOST OF ALL
